writing portion/last class with Mr. Schick

Today in West Civ, we had the writing portion of the exam. It was A LOT of writing, and we only had about 50 minutes to write 3 essays. I was rushing to get everything done, so I doubt my grammar and spelling wasn't the best. I hope I can get at least a B on this part and even better on the next part. I finished with only about 3 minutes left, and hope I can do well.

test overview

Today in west civ, we went over the test we just took. i found out that I made stupid mistakes on the ones I got wrong. I didn't check the test that well and was probably the reason why I didn't get a good grade. I hope I can do well on the first part of the exam tomorrow.

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

last test

Today in West Civ, we had a test. I think I got a B. It was pretty hard, but not to hard. I hope I got at least a B. I knew most of the questions, but some of the questions were a little confusing and I mixed them up with other questions. Mr. Schick is grading the tests right now, and hoping I will get a good grade.

Saturday, May 23, 2015

Today in west civ, I wasn't in class.i have a go kArt race in New Jersey. I hope to do well. we have a test in tuesday and hope to get an A on that. Mr schick probably gets very board when reading theses because they are very boring. See u on Tuesday

we presented

Today in West Civ, our group presented. We actually did a very we job on presenting and we explained everything very thoroughly. I wasn't nervous like I usually am on things like this. I hope this will raise my grade a little bit, so I can have an A in this class. I will not be in school tomorrow, so yeah.

More on presentation

Today in West Civ, more people presented projects. Jayla did a very well done job for being a lone. She presented about pottery. Alex and Arthur did their project on architecture and brought in a Roman temple made out of legos. Trish and Caitlyn made a diary, and read the diary in front of the class. It was really good, and very long.

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Two groups presented

Today in West Civ, we had presentations. One group brought in a Roman food, and it tasted pretty good. Another group made a rap, and it was really funny. They weren't that good at singing, but the song was really good. I hope our group does a good job, so we get a good grade. I really need a good grade because I don't have that well of a grade in this class. Our group is doing a presentation on Gladiators, and it's going to be fun presenting.

Friday, May 15, 2015

left early

Today in West Civ, I left early. I left early because I'm going to Vermont to go to my brothers graduation. When I left, we were about to watch a video on BB King. He was a famous Jazz player. I heard a lot about him on the radio when driving up to Vermont. I can't wait until the summer is here, so I can have fun.

Thursday, May 14, 2015

More on Rome

Today in West Civ, we went over more of the powerpoint. It was a little more interesting because of some of the things we learned. I can't wait until summer, so I don't have to sit in class anymore. I hope to have a fun teacher in history class next year because history is a boring subject, but Mr. Schick made it a very fun subject.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

pop quiz

Today in West Civ, we had a pop quiz. I didn't do too well on it because I kept getting the answers mixed up. I hope I can still get an A for the quarter, and for the semester. I got a 6/10 on the pop quiz, and our average grade was a 72%. I should've done a lot better on it. At the end of class, we got to work on our Rome projects. We got a little bit done.

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

grab some land

Today in West Civ, we watched more on the movie. Mr. Schick kept going back to this one scene where they said, "Grab the Land." They kept saying it and Mr. Schick and everyone else thought it was very funny. I hope we can do more fun things like this in class. Next week is our test and some of this is probably going to be on there. I hope I do well.

Sunday, May 10, 2015

i missed school

Today in West Civ, I wasn't in class because I went trout fishing. I couldn't blog Friday or Saturday because I had no wifi, nor reception. This was the only day I had reception over the weekend. It was a fun weekend.

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

JFK

Today in Western Civ, we learned more about Rome. We reviewed what we learned yesterday. Mr. Schick told us about Vice-Presidents, and how they do nothing. He was telling us about the story on JFK, and his death. It was irrelevant to class, but was still fun to talk about. We then learned more about the powerpoint. Mr. Schick gets a little mad because of how slow we write, evan though we don't have to write everything.  It was a fun class.

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

US vs Rome gov't

Today in Western Civ, we compared the ancient Rome government, and the U.S government. The ancient Rome government is very similar to the U.S government from when the bill of rights was signed. They both have a legislative, judicial, and executive branches are the three types of government. It was pretty cool learning about the amendments, and the class discussing it. I hope we learn more tomorrow.

Friday, May 1, 2015

We got to do homework

Today in Wester Civ, we got to work on homework. We got this because we are yet again, in front of the other classes. I was really happy because I had a lot of homework, and I don't want to be doing it over the weekend. I now have none, and hope my other teachers won't give me a lot. Mr. Schick is the best teacher because he always does this.

Thursday, April 30, 2015

grandparents day

Today in Western Civ, we had everyones grandparents come to the class because it was grandparents day. It was a fun class again because of the stuff we learned. Mr. Schick was being funny again, and was doing a very good job of presenting in front of the grandparents. I think this topic is pretty interesting. Mr. Schick showed us a Google Earth image of the colosseum.

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Started the project

Today in West Civ, we worked on our projects for most of the class. I'm with Jerry, Parker, and Dylan. We are doing a power point, a sculpture, and a one page paper. It's going to be a fun project because of the people in my group. Mr. Schick was than asking everyone what they were doing. I thought one of the groups project was cool. Their project involved making a music video with a green screen.

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

riots

Today in Western Civ, we talked about the rioting in Baltimore. We discussed the good and the bad things about it. We also talked about some of the interviews that everyone saw. We talked a lot about an interview with this kid in a green shirt, and how he made so much sense. I thought that todays class was so much fun today because of the conversation we had.

Friday, April 24, 2015

Absent

Today in West Civ, I wasn't in class. I wasn't at Crackle Barrel, but everyone probably thinks I am. Mr. Schick definitely thinks I'm at Cracker Barrel, but that's fine. I hope I didn't miss much, so that I won't be behind when I get back. Can't wait to talk more about Rome, and see Chi Cago agin, so that he can perform once again.

Thursday, April 23, 2015

Computer Problem

Today in West Civ, Mr. Schick showed us the song lyrics again. When he showed us this time, he added pictures to it, so we could learn it easier. Mr. Schick was getting really mad at his computer because it wasn't working correctly. It was a funny class again because of all the things that happen. Veronica brought in donuts and we all ate them.

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

we got a 98%

Today in West Civ, we got our papers back. My group got a 98%. It was suprising because most of the other groups got lower than that. We worked really hard on it, and got nearly any mistakes. We than looked at the most common mistakes by everyone, and how we should not make these mistakes. It was a fun class and can't wait for tomorrows class.

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

best class ever

Today in Western Civ, Mr. Schick made the day. In class we started to talk about Rome. He had a powerpoint on it that we looked at and took notes on. It was a little boring, but most classes are. The phone rang during the middle of class and Jayla picked it up once again. It was Mrs. Fogerty telling Mr. Schick that we had a guest. Mr. Schick then left the room. When he returned he dressed up as a rapper, and made himself look like the guest. He then performed a rap song for us called Rome by CHI CAGO. It was a song by him about Rome. The class started laughing so hard, and definitely will be the class of the year.

Friday, April 17, 2015

we had a shadow

Today in West Civ, we just worked on homework for the whole class. This was awesome because I had a lot of homework, and now I have almost none. I worked on my math homework which was pretty hard, but got it done. We also had a shadow, and that shadow used to go to my middle school, so I knew him well. It was a fun class.

Thursday, April 16, 2015

Human cathedral

Today in Western Civ, we had a different class than usual. We talked about future projects for the remainder of the year. The weird thing about this is that Mr. Schick is letting us choose what we want to do as a project. I had a lot of ideas, but no one liked them. I suggested clay macon Rome characters in a movie, a comercial about Rome, or a movie with real people.  Jerry had some really funny suggestions like a human cathedral, but Mr. Schick didn't buy into that. The class was really funny today and ope we can talk more about this tomorrow.

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Plato video

Today in Western Civ, we watched a video on Plato. It was a little boring, but it was very interesting. I zoned out a couple times, but knew a little bit of what it was about. When we were done watching it, we discussed about it. It had a really cool meaning because the whole story was relating to life now a days. The life now a days is mainly about people being very close minded, or only think what they think is right. I hope we can do something fun tomorrow because coming back from a long break is hard.

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

i got a 78%

Today in Western Civ, we went over our tests. I got a 78%, but I knew I could've done  a little better. It was actually better than I thought I got because I didn't know a lot of the questions. We actually took the entire test to go over the answers. At the end of the class we had to go to an assembly about this guy who had to go through a lot. I thought he was actually pretty cool because how interesting his story was. I don't like when the speakers are very boring because than it's hard to listen. Mr. Schick's class is the best class by far, and only have about six more weeks of new material.

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

we had a test

Today in Western Civ, we had a test, and it was not that good. I think I got a C or a B. It was a pretty hard test because of all of the questions. I hope I can get a B, but if I get a C, I will take it. It's still the beginning of the quarter, and I know I can get it up. Mr. Schick is putting the test in the machine right now to get the grades. I'm guessing our average percent will be around a 77%. I can't wait to see what I got.

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

done

Today in Western Civ, we completed our paper. I did what I needed to do over the weekend, so I just watched the rest of the movie. After we were complete, we worked on cited sources. It was very easy because Kendall found a website for it. I hope we can get a good grade on the test. The two videos were very interesting and helpful. I can't wait for Mr. Schick comes back because I don't like having all of these subs. The test is tomorrow, and I have been studying hard.

Saturday, March 28, 2015

4 days until break

Today in Western Civ, we worked on the project some more. We are 700 words in, and is going very well so far. We just have to talk about the art, philosophy, and then a conclusion and we will be finished. I wish Mr. Schick was back, so that we could ask him questions about the paper and the upcoming test. I hope I can can get a B or above. It will be a hard test, and have to study more.

Thursday, March 26, 2015

300 word in

Today in Western Civ, we worked on our research paper. Mr. Schick is in the Netherlands visiting her daughter in college. Me, Kendall, and Ellee worked on the paper for the entire class, and already have 300 words. I think we might be able to finish this tomorrow, or Monday. I actually don't like working in groups because then it's harder for us to think the same, and we usually have different ideas then each other. I think I'm going to do very bad on the test because I was very confused when everyone was doing their presentations. and didn't know what to write down. I hope I can figure something out to do well on the test.

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

i left early

Today in Western Civ, we did the last two presentations. The first group talked about Greek Mythology. They are polytheistic which means they believe in many gods. All the most important gods are called Greek Parathion. The important God's are; Zeus (god of sky), Poseidon (god of sea), Athena (goddess of reason, intelligent activity, and arts and literature), Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty), Hera (goddess of marriage and queen of olympus), and there a lot more important ones, but those are the most important ones.  The next group talked about gov't in Ancient Greece. I left early, so I didn't get to hear all of it. Aristocracy is a form of go't which the power is in the hands of small power people. The power is also hereditary which means it's passed from father to son. The last important thing is that they have a tyranny. A tyranny is when you have one ruler and that person made laws.

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

more presentations

Today in Western Civ, we continued to do our presentations. Our group went and I think we  did pretty well because Mr. Schick said we did a very good job describing it instead of just reading the slide. One group did their presentation of Hoplites and Triremes. 1/2-1/3 of men in ancient Greece estimated to have been able to fight and buy the needed materials for war. The Triremes were the battle ships that they used. They could plow right into other ships and destroy it while doing that. The next group talked about  Art & Architecture. The three types of architecture is Doric order, Ionic order, and corinthian order. They are all cool, and this is a fun coarse.

blog thursday 3/19

Today in western civ,  we learned more about the powerpoint on greeece. We learned many things about Isagoras and cleisthenes. Isagoras won power after Hippias, and then cleisthenes supporters rose up and Isagoras kicked out. In 508 BCE is when the democracy started to grow in Greece. At the end of class, Mr. Schick showed us part of the video that we are going to watch while he is in the Netherlands.

Transformation of gov't day 1

Today in West Civ, we learned about aristocrats and other topics. Aristocrats ran most of Greece from 6-7 BCE. Rich people influenced society. Aristocracy is ruled by Aristocrats. Symposiums were the meetings where elite men would enjoy wine and poetry, but it was bad because most of the people were drunk and say things they weren't supposed to, so certain aristocrats were excluded. The main word we talked about was ostracize which means to banish. More on this tomorrow

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

16 slides in

Today in Western Civ, we worked more on our presentation. Kendall wasn't there in class, so Ellee and I worked on it. We got a lot done with the time that we had. We now have 16 slides, and it is looking very good so far. I hope that we can get an A on this project, so that I can finish the quarter off with an A.

Friday, March 13, 2015

10 slides in

Today in western civ, we worked on our slides again. Our group got a lot done as other didn't because they were usually talking. It was a pretty fun working on it, and think we are going to get a pretty good grade on it. I hope we can get an A.

Thursday, March 12, 2015

Today in Western Civ, we FaceTimed Mr. Schick's daughter who is in France. We FaceTimed her because it was her birthday. After that we worked on our power points a little bit. Our group already has 4 slides on pericles and the golden age. This is going to be a fun project and can't wait to get into it more. Here are the facts I gathered.

Pericles and his early years
  • Pericles was born in 495 B.C.
  • Xanthippus, his father was a hero of the Persian war.
  • His mother was a member of a noble family.
  • He started his career in the law courts.
  • Born into a wealthy family, had good education.
  • Lover of philosophy, art, and literature.

3.11.15

Today in Western Civ, we mainly talked about the upcoming projects. We have to make a powerpoint and write a paper in our groups. Mr. Schick let us pick our own group and I'm with Ellee and Kendall. We are doing a fun project. We also had a pop quiz and I got a 90%

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Today in Western Civ, we talked a little more about Ancient Greece. We talked about the other sea called the Ionian Sea which is south of the Adriatic. They had Arable land which means it can be farmed very easily. The greeks diet consisted of  grains, grapes, olives, but that's not everything. They had nice weather all year round, and colonization was key. A group we talked about is Mycenaeans.  This group started in 200 BCE, located on a rocky ridge and protected by a 20 foot thick wall. Their kings dominated Greece from 1600-1200 BCE, and they controlled trade. 1400 BCE, they invaded Crete. Another group we talked about was the Sea people and Dorians. They invaded Mycenae in 1200 BCE. The Dorians weren't advanced and they had no writing and the writing disappeared for 400 years. We don't know who sea people are because of no writing. The last person we talked about is Homer the storyteller. They formed during the Greek Dark Ages, and taught people about this. The Lliad and the Odyssey are by Homer. There has been a question if Homer actually existed which is called the "Homeric question". At the end of class, Mr. Schick read us a little bit of the Odyssey.

Plato

Plato:
He was a very important Greek philosopher who lived from 427 BC and 328 BC. His approach to philosophy is about that ideas  aren't authentically know unless you speak them. The writing he his know for is mostly about dialogues, and this makes his reading way cooler in style. As a person he taught Aristotle, and was a student of Socrates. He is know today for all his ideas in his works which made him the kinda of guy he is.

Pre cyber day

Today in Western Civ, we talked about tomorrows cyber day. We talked about if we would have school tomorrow and Friday because of the potential snow. Mr. Schick also told us about what kind of assignments we should expect, and we also talked about plagiarism and how kids are doing this in school. Ellee and I got into an argument about ghosts and if they are real or not. They are not real at all, but she denied that.

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Ancient Greece

Today in Western Civ, we talked about Ancient Greece. It was pretty interesting with all the things Mr. Schick taught us. I learned that Mesopotamia's river's are the Tigris and Euphrates, Egypt's river is the Nile River, India's river is the Indus river, and China's river is the Huang He River. More facts that we learned is that 1400 islands off the coast of Greece. It is considered a peninsula because it has water on all three sides. This is important because then you can trade, build ships, fish, etc. The most important fact that we learned was that Mediterranean means middle of earth. A cool fact we learned was that it was faster to sail around Greece that it was to go right across it. The Adriatic sea is west of Greece, and the Aegean sea is east of Greece, but these two seas are part of the Mediterranean, but just separated into two sections. The Island of Crete is south of Greece, and the capital of Greece is Athens.

we had a test

Today in western civ, we had a test. The test was pretty easy because it was only multiple choice. I studied all day yesterday because we had a snow day. When I was done I checked the ones I knew I got right, and the ones I wasn't sure. I hope I can get at least an 85%. I wasn't sure about 7 of the questions, but hen I checked, I got majority of them right. I hope I got an A.

Thursday, February 26, 2015

I did the challenge

Today in Western Civ, I completed the pyramid challenge with my partner Adam. He was actually the one who got it, so we both finished. We talked about pyramids, and mainly just life in ancient Egypt. Mr. Schick kept calling me pinto boy, and kept mentionign cracker barrel because I went there yesterday. Some cool facts are;
-Egyptians  believed in the after life
-they believed that mummification would make you live again on the afterlife
-papyrus was the paper they used. They rolled it up and sent them away and used them a long time after to teach others
Pyramid building wasn't made by slaves at all
They started figuring out the movement of the moon, the river movement, and how it got hotter and colder for the calendar.
-The pyramid were the tallest buildings on earth for thousands of year

Geography

Today in Western Civ, I wasn't in class. I'm gonna blog about the geography in Egypt. The Egyptian life is centered around the Nile River. The delta is a broad, and is a marshy triangular area of fertile soil. In order to manage the river, it took a lot of technological break throughs. Almost every october it leaves behind rich soil, whereas in July it always floods. The water is also very useful.

Cyber day assignment

1. Egypt had freedom their country, established the other countries next to them and built an empire that stretched from Syria to Sudan. This made wealth and power. This is important because it would make you very strong. This would improve Egypt because the wealth and power weren't as good as they were after this.

2. Astronomers were important because they could discover new stuff everyday in the solar system. This an advancement to Egypt because it could give them a better knowledge of space and the solar system.

3. The ancient Egyptian Gods helped people be more knowledgable. This is important because having a religion makes you just a little more powerful. This is key for Egypt because they aren't that developed, and having a religion would make them just a little more developed.

4.The history of Egyptian writing and math. This is important because it would help with communication, learning, and intelligence. This helped Egypt because when people are smart and intelligent, many good things will come out of it.

5. Egyptian hieroglyphics were important because that's their type of writing. This would help Egypt with communication the most.

Geography

Today in Western Civ, I was at orthodontist for majority of the class. When I came back, Ellee let me copy some of her notes down that she wrote. The important things about geography are really interesting. The Nile River flows North to South, and floods every July, and this creates very good fertile silt in October that year. The part where the river get rough is called the cataract. It is 4,000 miles wide. People can use this water for drinking, irrigation, bathing, and transportation.  Geography is very important.

pharaohs

We had a cyber day today because of snow. I took notes on the pharaohs, and this is what I found. The hatshepsut was a women who served as pharaoh. The political and religious leaders hold titles: ‘Lord of the two lands’ and ‘high priest of every temple. AS ‘lord of the two lands’ the pharaoh was the rulers of upper Egypt. He owned all land, made laws, collected taxes, and defended Egypt against followers. And thats the pharaohs.

a short week

Today in west civ, we got both of our recent tests back. I got an A on one of them and a B on the other. I was pretty happy with the grades because It didn’t really push down my average for the quarter too much. This was a really short week this week because we had off Tuesday for Ice, and we don’t have school Friday because of Professional Day. Both of the the tests were really easy because I studied a lot for them. It was a little funny because some of the kids got three points deducted from their score because they didn’t follow the directions on the first page. I hope I can do even better the next test because then I can boost my average up a little more.

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Lord today we have a test, help us please to do our best

Today in Western Civ class, we took a test. The test was pretty difficult, but for the most part, it wasn’t bad. I didn’t know some of it, but hopefully I got a pretty good grade. Mr. Schick let us study for 15 minutes before. The first couple questions were definitely the hardest. I knew most of the problems on the test. When everyone was done, Mr. Schick went into the answer room to get our results. Right before the bell rang, he told us our grades, and i got a 88%.

we presented

Today in Western Civ class, we presented our projects about the movie. Our group had the writing part of it. It was an easy project, and was fun. my project had many facts. The interesting one’s were Evolved around 5,000 years ago. Appeared in a region of the Fertile Crescent called Sumer. An elaborate system of symbols known as cuneiform was developed to permanently record official accounts on clay tablets. It didn't take long for cuneiform to be used for political and historical events as well. The technology was invented to write down events  and inform people. Also written down for social, and private actions in society.. Important events and stories were recorded using writing, like the first epic, “The Epic of Gilgamesh”. Writing was also used for political events. Whenever societies which were illiterate clashed with societies who were literate, the literate societies were the victors. Entire agricultural societies were transformed upon writing being introduced. Mr Schick said that our presentation will be on the test for sure because it was the most important.

One more day until we present

Today in Western Civ, we created a Powerpoint. To know which group had which topic, we drew out a number between one and ten, and then whoever had the lowest number got to pick sooner, and get better choices. Our group was one of the last groups to pick out of the hat, but we still had a good number. We chose how writing has come a long way. It was a pretty easy topic, and we got to use a website provided by the one and only, Mr. Schick. Writing evolved around 5,000 years ago, and appeared in a region of the Fertile Crescent called Sumer. After a little of time, it didn't take long for the style of writing, cuneiform to be used for political and historical events as well. The technology was invented to write down and inform the writings. There are many cool things about writing, and we present tomorrow!!

A delay happen

Today in Western Civ, we watched the rest of Guns, Germs, and Steel. Mr. Schick was getting a little upset because his computer would not function correctly. Whenever he tried to turn the volume up, it would have no sound. He couldn’t get this for about 15 minutes, so he was getting a little mad. While Mr. Schick was trying to figure all of this out, I was talking to Jerry about our middle school and funny things about it. We talked a lot and then he just got a kids computer, and solved the problem. When we watched the video, we went over some important parts of the video. I thought it was cool that they heat up lime stone, so that it melts, and then they use it for plaster. New Guinea hasn’t really gone anywhere in thousands of years. This is because they used sago trees for food a long time ago. A fact I already kind of knew was that us Americans consume 20 million tons of wheat per year. This is all cool to learn about.

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

the movie is almost done

Today in Western Civ, we watched more of the documentary. It’s pretty fun to watch because of how different people were back then, and how they survived. We talked about the animals, the food, and just how their lifestyle was. The documentary talked a lot about GEOGRAPHIC LUCK. Having barley and wheat are much better to have because you can store it and have a lot. The 1st settlement that people discovered was “Draa”. It was considered the birth of civilization. They had a little bit of technological advances like the Granary which they stored food in. Domestication is getting particular traits than other living things. This was useful for animals and plants. Rice emerged from China, corn, squash, and beans were from AMerica, and Sorghum, millet, and yams came from Africa. In Papua New Guinea, the best muscle is human muscle power. An animal that gives birth is more beneficial than one that gives birth at 15. Guns, Germs, and Steel

Today in Western Civ, we watching a part of a documentary about Papua New Guinea. We are watching this documentary because the people there live like people did in Mesopotamia. It’s pretty interesting how they do this compared to what most countries do to live. We talked about some important concepts like what separates the “haves” and “have not’s” in terms of modern stuff. Why do white men have so many good and we, New Guineans have nothing. They are very smart people in their own way like how they survive. Us normal people probably could not function their way, but they wouldn’t know how to use technology. Another key concept is that why does our technology progress, but there's hasn't budged, and large populations are also very important. They have a food called, “Wild sego”, which they get from pulp on a tree, and then cook it. It has almost no protein, vitamins, or nutrients, but it’s a huge part of their diet. Its’ all very key.

test today

Today in Western Civ, we had a test. This test I think I actually got a 100%. I think I got this because we got to use our blogs for the test. I wrote everything on my blog that he said was important. I was very glad I did my blog everyday because it was finally beneficial. I had a couple of doubts on only two questions, but I’m pretty sure I answered them correctly. I hope I got a 100% because then it will start my grade off for this quarter and semester very well. The whole test was basically my blog just put into other words. I don't think many people did their blogs, so they didn’t have as much of as an advantage as the people who did their blog. I hope we can use our blogs for the next couple test because then I can do the best I can.

test tomorrow

Today in Western Civ, we talked about what’s going to be on the test tomorrow. The test is mainly going to be on Mesopotamia. The facts we went over that are important are about one of the oldest places people have lived and developed on this earth. The people there didn’t survive, or live very well, so when the surplus was created, it went a lot better. Some important years to remember 200,000 years ago a human species emerged in southwestern Africa. 14,000 years ago, a worldwide human race existed. Instead of wondering and finding food, they controlled planting, farming, storing, making the food safe, and sent people out hunting. The way that kids lived longer was isolation and staying in the same place over a period of time, and the women were in charge of that. They had very good river and very fertile land. The men could do bigger and more dangerous jobs because they didn’t have to take care of the kids. The most important thing that we went over was the invention of the wheel and plow. This test should be easy and hope I can do well.

The test is moved back

Today in Western Civ, we talked about the Hammurabi’s Code. We talked in more detail about the laws. In the beginning of the class, he said we could talk quietly until he updates his blog again. Our test was scheduled for tomorrow, but since we talked very well about the coeds, it was switched to Thursday. Veronica also gave out cookies to the whole class. They were really good, and I got two. We then started talking about the codes. There were many that were related to now today in many ways. I thought the code that when someone is killed because they built a house for someone and it collapsed and the homeowner died was pretty related to today. I think this was because I’ve heard that if a building falls down, and kills many people, the architect is put into jail. I hope I can do well on this test to get started on a good note for this semester and quarter.

Today in Western Civ, we talked about the rest of the powerpoint I was interested in it because I reviewed most of it last night, so I knew what he was actually talking about. We also talked about Hammurabi’s code. We looked at some of the laws that he made. Most of them were crazy and a little bit funny laws. Here are some words that are going to be on the test.

  • Neolithic Age- The new stone age. It was marked by advanced tool making and the beginnings of agriculture
  • Agricultural Revolution- a change in hunting/gathering to more settled agriculture. Populations increased from good care health wise
  • cuneiform- The earliest form of writing invented by the Sumerians
  • ziggurat- a Sumerian temple built on top of a “mountain” of earth

First day of western civ

Today in Western Civ, I was late to class. I was late to class because I overslept this morning. I actually arrived with about two minutes to go. When I got there Mr. Schick told me to make a new blog about this class because it’s a new semester. On the way over to school I knew I was going to miss the entire class, so I started thinking about what we might learn this semester in the class. I also thought about the fun things we have learned in Human Geo. My favorite thing we have learned in Human Geo was definitely North Korea. I liked the North Korea topic because they are way different to the rest of the countries in the world. It is also very interesting when something is very recent. I hope we can have some fun topics in this semesters Western Civ, and having Mr. Schick as a teacher just makes it a lot better.
